HSM is the initiator of the whole project and is therefore the coordinator of this Innovation Action. HSM, as integrator will produce the prototypes that will include all the innovations developed by the partners. As WP leader HSM will also coordinate the development of the innovations for soil protection. Last but not least HSM will be highly involved in the development of other innovative modules as well as in the demonstration and the dissemination of the results.

The Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) is part of the Steinbeis Innovation gGmbH, an entity within the Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Promotion founded by the government of Baden Württemberg in 1971. Within the Steinbeis Foundation SEZ is responsible for the support of European research projects and transnational co-operation in Europe. The SEZ has yearlong experience in organizing workshops, conferences and brokerage events for technology transfer, as well as finding partners for proposals. SEZ supports also actively its clients in their innovation and exploitation strategies. In 2013 SEZ was involved in 45 projects interacting with 445 partners from 44 countries.

KIT | Mobima has the lead in Work Package 3 Energy-saving and climate-friendly innovations and will be actively coordinating the work of the project partners. In parallel KIT | Mobima will contribute to the other project innovations, offering its expertise to simulate and develop the hydro-pneumatic suspension and the hybrid-hydraulic forest crane. Support to the development of the power-split transmission will be delivered through transmission controller setup on the 4WD Chassis Dynamometer. As research institution KIT has special interest in publication of the scientific results of the Forwarder2020 project and will be actively disseminating in journals and on conferences.
Forstdienstleistungen Hegenbarth is a service providing individual enterprise, founded in July 2006. The main field of activity of its 10 employees is to harvest wood with 2 harvesters and 4 forwarders produced by HSM GmbH, that means cut standing wood and length it with a harvester, transport it out of the forest and stable it on the forest road with a forwarder (http://www.forst-hegenbarth.de/videos.html). Day by day FDH employees work with forest machines especially in difficult terrain in the mountains of Saxony, Thuringia and Baden-Würthemberg, such as steep slope (over 35%), wet underground, in stony landscape and on sandy or greasy soil.

Dana Rexroth Transmission Systems (DRTS) is in the business of developing and manufacturing technologically advanced hydro mechanical variable transmissions. The major advantages of this new technology are the fuel savings achieved by intelligent control of mechanical and hydraulic components. This leads to increased machine productivity. Dana Rexroth is a joint venture of the Dana Corporation and Bosch Rexroth AG. Both parent organisations are leaders in their respective business segment. The collaboration developed in the form of a joint venture Dana Rexroth was to advance transmission technology which has not seen may innovations since its induction in the mechanical engineering market segment in the early 1940’s. DRTS currently has a product range comprising of two transmissions covering the mid to large range of the heavy mobile equipment industry. The transmissions developed by DRTS are technologically advanced in the sense that they offer an infinitely variable speed or stepless speed output. By coupling the hydrostatic control unit and the mechanical transmission DRTS achieves an average transmission efficiency of over 85% in all drive ranges. This is far higher than the industry standard for transmission technology.

CSP Forestry Ltd.
CSP Forestry was founded as a partnership - C & S Paterson with Charles and Susan Paterson in 1986. CSP worked for several years harvesting only and having another company extract the timber for them. They bought their first forwarder in the early 1990’s and then moved on to wheeled harvesters running the complete operation themselves. CSP incorporated the business in 2003 and now run a fleet of 16 machines.
CSP currently employs 18 members involved with the harvesting, forwarding timber and baling of brash throughout Scotland.

Forstware Informationssysteme GmbH
The company Forstware Informationssysteme GmbH (founded in 1986) is a company for logistics and management with the Software GeoMail as a main product, beside forest inventory databases. Forstware has developed software for computer mapping, forest management / inventory and logistics and it’s own GIS. It originated from a powerful forestry information system developed by Forstware alone. Depending on the nature of the company GeoMail comes in combinations such as: only Planning Module, only Harvest Module, only Haulage Module, or the total flow of inventory from the timber yard at the factory. The operating System is Windows and the main programmer language ist C++, Java and TCL.

The forwarder shall be more integrated into the logistic chain by collecting and communicating data with help of the software. So the software and hardware applications shall be able to collect the machine performance indicators. The role of Forstware is to develop and design a user interface that shows the processed data in the machine and on a web platform.
The University of Applied Sciences Bern BFH has around 7.150 students and 2.250 employees in six departments located throughout the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. The School of Agriculture, Forest and Food Sciences HAFL, Department of Forest Science itself is not only an educational establishment but also an accredited training and competence center for forestry in Switzerland. It focuses on applying ecologically management principles that enable forestry graduates to help sustain the protective, economic and leisure functions of forests and it plays a central role in the development and implementation of novel solutions in sustainable forest management. The research and development is innovative, practical and need-oriented. They are both nationally - as well as internationally oriented.
